OUR VIEW ON CLIMATE CHANGE
Climate change is already altering the way we live. Scientists are reluctant to say with finality that changes to weather patterns - apparent now and felt around the globe - are the affect of climate change. But many believe they are. So do we. Scientists are, however, prepared to attach their names to a view of the future. That view confirms our lives will be altered to a much greater degree in coming years by potentially catastrophic impacts as the climate changes at a rate faster than at any time in known history.
But as we wait for the storm, we see another brewing in business. And we at Ecos Corporation are part of that storm - encouraging and assisting our clients not to view climate change as a threat but as a business opportunity born of unfortunate neccessity. Climate change is driving the creation of one of the biggest markets of the future - the trade in products and services that create fewer greenhouse gas emissions.
We believe that business not only has the capacity to lead the world's response to this pivotal sustainability issue, we believe it possesses the self-interest. We believe that change - driven by climate change imperatives - is inevitable and that value is best extracted by preparing now. We see the need for value based partnerships between corporations, civil society and government. We recognise that during this change while some companies will be transformed and will prosper, others will decline and even collapse. We work with those companies interested in transforming and prospering.
Ecos Corporation advises a number of clients on the implications of climate change, and on creating strategies to turn the challenges to advantage. Past and present examples include DuPont, Ford Motor Company, Australian electricity generator Pacific Power, the State of NSW's Sustainable Energy Development Authority, Lend Lease and Canada-based oil producer Suncor.
