IAG NZ

IAG NZ has taken a very active interest in theThames Coromandel District. This community case study provides a hands-on example of IAGNZ’s focus on safe communities and reducing weather-related risk. IAG NZ has identifi ed Climate
Change as a major risk driver for the business now and into the future. The company’s work with the Thames Coromandel is informing IAG’s interaction with communities located in areas exposed to extreme weather events.

Thames Coromandel is a peninsular district situated between the base of rugged ranges and the sea. Home to approximately 25,000 people, its close proximity to Auckland and Hamilton means that of 21,000 properties over 50% are owned by absentees. The region has special environmental significance with nearly 400km coastline and a colonial cultural heritage dating back to the gold mines of the late 1800s.
